What is QuikLinc

QuikLinc is designed to make daily/weekly changes to a webpage easy and quick.

QuikLinc gives you the ability to update pages with content such as ....

... without the need to for them to have a web publishing program, making QuikLinc especially useful where the content changes are best done by someone other than the webmaster.
e.g. Club secretary uploading the agenda of a meeting or the software team putting a new update on the web for their users.

How does it work ?

QuikLinc does its job by altering the static page content between predefined markers in the original web page.
QuikLinc will get the existing page from the website, alter it as required, and then upload the changed page back to the website again.
This means it doesn't require a dynamic site that uses database access, PHP, ASP, scripts etc and because it simply replaces content, the page being updated can use different technologies such as html or aspx and QuikLinc will still work.

Markers are placed within the web page to indicate where the content should start and stop.
This can usually be done by placing html comments within the page such as

... although any other unique text within the page will also work.

The content information is stored in a local XML file, but an option within QuikLinc allows this file to be stored on the website so the content can be updated by different users and/or from different computers without losing previously entered information.

History

QuikLinc was originally designed so content such as a list of downloadable files could be easily updated by someone other than the original site publisher. For example this is how our Software updates page is kept up-to-date.
The Tascsoft site was is built in plain html using Fog Creeks Citydesk Content Management System so that it is easy to maintain and change. QuikLinc gives us the ability for parts of the sites content to be updated quicky and easily by anyone of the team.
